Senior Teaching Assistant
Objectives:
To support students’ development in academic, behavior and social areas during classes, breaks, transitions or special events, as well as supporting inclusion in the mainstream classes. Assist the teacher in achieving teaching and learning objectives while maintaining standard of order in the class. Manage and guide a small group of teaching assistants in their duties.
Requirements:
- Diploma, Professional Certificate/Qualification in Education/Teaching or related field
- Possessing a good grasp of English - both written and spoken, and all other core subjects - math, science, and history
- Able to teach from our curriculum which has a Biblical world view
- Able to keep up with the fast-paced and demanding nature of children
- Able to deal with challenging situations
- Possessing the ability to be "teachable" - being willing to grow and learn as a teacher
- Resourceful and creative
- Enthusiastic, motivating and committed
- Caring and patient
Educational Responsibilities:
- Assist and support students or classes assigned to maximize learning opportunities
- Assist in preparing teaching materials
- Assist in explaining instructions through various instructional techniques
- Track and record student progress on a regular basis
- Identify individual student needs and areas of improvement
- Provide students with extra support as identified (e.g. tutoring, reviewing homework assignments before going home, assist in note taking, conduct tests/quizzes in separate room, etc)
- Identify problem areas and discuss and seek solutions
- Motivate and encourage students’ progress and independence
- Cover for class teacher when needed
- Teach an elective class
Operational Expectations:
- Effective use of available resources
- Set up and maintain classroom environment conducive for learning
- Participate in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods with teacher team
- Assist in the development, modification of teaching instructions/ strategies to adapt to individual needs
- Provide advice and instructions for improvement

Public Engagement Expectations:
- Teacher parent meetings
- Open Day, Parent teacher conference
- Periodic events, community projects, after school activities
- Coordinate with TAs on community projects/after school event
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, resources, equipment and facilities
- Comply with and enforce Centre policies
- Assist in maintaining order for the class
- Oversee performance of TAs
Administration Expectations:
- Adhere to all administrative regulations
- Attend weekly meetings, other meetings as required
- Assist in the formulation of improved work processes
